A long, narrow floor plate is the most common shape in this pocket of South Delhi — and usually the hardest to like. Here, one wall of the apartment turns west, and the brief was built entirely around the hour of light it gets every afternoon.
The kitchen moved to the dark end of the plan; the living room and study now sit where the sun reaches. A run of cane-fronted joinery replaces what would ordinarily be a solid corridor wall, so light carries three rooms deep instead of stopping at the first door.
Structural changes were kept to two load-bearing openings, resolved with the building's original engineer before drawings were signed off.
